In compiling the page Writers’ Groups in Thanet we found quite a few more in Kent. As Thanet is part of Kent, we thought we would start a seperate page for those groups we learn about that might be of interest to the people of Thanet.
Like Writers’ groups in Thanet, these entries are in no particular order. A huge thanks to Kent Fiction Writers for a large majority of this information.
Kent Fiction Writers
Kent Fiction Writers (who we wrote about here) describe themselves as an experiment in seeing what it takes to bring together a real-world group of writers in Kent. Rather than being situated in one village, town or city, the group will seek out meeting places with literary associations, whether they be historical landmarks, bookshops, or libraries, across Kent.
SaveAs Writers
SaveAs Writers is an independent and dynamic group based in Canterbury, Kent, UK, holding regular workshops, events, and competitions. The group is increasingly active within the wider writing community, with a presence at the Canterbury Festival when it hosts workshops and other events. The SaveAs Writers’ group was shortlisted in the East Kent Culture Awards 2013 and Luigi Marchini was shortlisted for the East Kent People’s Award/Culture Awards 2014.
SaveAs Writers welcomes new members who would like to share and workshop their creative writing within a lively but supportive group.
SaveAs Writers and Thanet Creative first met up at our first ever summer BBQ. They were delightful guests and many of us hope to see more of them in the future.
The Kent and Sussex Poetry Society
Founded in 1946 and based in Tunbridge Wells, the Kent and Sussex Poetry Society is a lively local group with a national reputation.
According to their Facebook page, their mission is “To bring live poetry to Kent and Sussex. To support local writers with workshops and retreats. To run one of the best poetry competitions in the UK.”

Just Write – Kent & Sussex Writers
As far as I (Matt) can tell this is an online only community for writers and poets in Kent and Sussex.
