The power of what if

The most powerful tool a writer has is the line of questions that begin “what if…?”.

For example:

  • What if you could see ten minutes into the future?
  • What if they banned being smart?
  • What if ghosts were real and you could see them?

Every “what if” question leads to another question for which you, the writer, can invent answers.

Asking “what if” is exactly what I do for most of the ideas I share on The Muse of Last Resort. This is because the more you start to ask yourself “what if” the more “what if” questions you find yourself thinking up.

Like most writers, my “what if” questions have given me more ideas than I know what to do with.

What are your favorite “what if” questions to think about?
